Have to make art is never stopped by naysayers or by those desperate to analyze.
Julius von Bismarck - Some Pigeons are More Equal than Others (2012)
Artist’s explanation:
“This week-long project is about dying 35 pigeons in the city of Copenhagen. A machine was build for this purpose, which works as a bird trap with a conveyor belt mechanism. Once inside the machine the pigeon is automatically airbrushed in various colors.”
So… There is an artist out there capturing wild birds and putting them in his rainbow-matic dying machine? How can I find this man and invite him to parties?

“Wrong Century” — Brilliant illustration by artist Tomas Kucerovsky depicting the fate of plus-size beauty in the modern age.
Some of Claire Keane’s concept art for Tangled. I love the tenebrism reminiscent of Caravaggio. Also the strong jaws in some of them remind me of Rossetti of the Pre-Raphaelites. Yummy stuff. I feel like if they had gone this way, we would have had a much darker but even more gorgeous film.
I also like her costume ideas a lot more than what ended up in the film.
It’s always painful to look at concept art and realize just how disappointing the final product actually is, and this the case with nearly all of Disney’s work. A lot of it unfortunately comes down to the fact that the people at Disney care too much about what the public thinks; they care too much about pleasing everyone, and so they never actually take risks or do anything that’s truly different— they haven’t since Walt’s death. According to those who knew him, Walt always asked “What do kids want to see?” He never asked “What do parents want their kids to see?” and that’s something the company has seriously forgotten. It’s a shame because they have so many gifted artists working for them and all that talent is being wasted on mediocre, unambitious, “safe” projects.
Reblogging for the pretty art, sure, but mostly for the commentary.
Real Life Flemish Portraits by Sacha Goldberger
Taking a cue from Rembrandt, Sacha enlisted a small army of costume, hair, and make-up designers to assist his human and live animal models. My personal photo would have been with a mongoose. Aint no cobras coming after me.

Hehe fancy animals.
Why hello there Mr. Woodstork, fancy seeing you here.
(Also I just want to know what was going through the minds of these women both in and out of character as they posed with these critters)
Another “Steam” character design for you lovelies.
Nurse Leezle Sands is assistant to the Doctor (not timey wimey doctors, just a normal Steam Punk doctor) aboard the ship where the adventures take place. She speaks solely German, so she is restricted to direct communication with the doctor or using very exaggerated expressions. Although she looks rather meek and timid, do not be fooled by her appearance. She is very formidable and is quite adept at holding her own against the Doctor’s tantrums. The two often have fierce arguments where only the doctor’s English can be understood by the crew. Because of this, it seems he is needlessly harsh with his criticisms and insults, although German speakers would understand that Leezle’s remarks just as bad. If it weren’t for her and her dedicated ways, it is quite unlikely that there would be as many patients surviving the Doctor’s off-kilter methods. If Nurse Leezle is not present in the infirmary much of the crew does not bother going in. All of this aside, Leezle does respect the Doctor; she just has a low tolerance for his uncouth personality.
Leezle had been working down in the trenches with the Doctor before the events in this story. When the two went AWOL they left for the airship which was offering a form of political immunity to whoever was daring enough to join. Because of this, Leezle and the doctor feel indebted to the ship and like they would do anything for her and her crew. Although Leezle can not speak directly to a lot of her fellow shipmates she is very creative with her body and facial vocabulary, making her one of the most expressive members on board. Also, she is a bit sensitive about her short stature. Although she is about 25 or 26 years old she is mistaken for being younger much too often for her liking.

More of these characters for a project entitled “Steam”.
This is a princess character proposed by my coworker Ben. So far all he’s told me is that he wanted a princess character. With that abundant information I threw my arms up, said “screw it” and went all out with cliches. GAUSSIAN FILTER EVERYWHERE.
The events of this story are set in a desert climate, so I decided to give Princess No name an exotic “Orientalist” look. She comes from an invading culture, so I wanted to push how out of place she is in that climate with her almost albino coloration. She also flaunts that she has conquered the community by adorning herself with an impractical level of swag from the conquered land.
As for direct inspiration I will admit that the princess from Little Nemo and Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones influenced this character’s look. Here’s hoping Ben has great things in store for her.
